In addition to my work with MFN, I am Program Director for Entrepreneurial Ecosystems at Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s Innovation Institute. I am not an entrepreneur in the true sense of the term, but there are many of us “entrepreneur-types” hiding out in government. It takes a firm commitment to maintaining and growing an entrepreneurial mindset to be an effective change-maker and design and implement impactful programs.
Why is this project important to you?
I am passionate about helping build communities across Massachusetts that foster a culture of entrepreneurship, openness and collaboration. It is no surprise that founders located closer to Boston have easier access to mentorship, capital, and peer networks. This project will help democratize access to startup communities and resources for all Massachusetts founders.
I hope this platform fuels a pipeline for companies with high-growth potential from demographically and geographically underserved communities. It will create a space for diverse founders to be seen and heard. The stories told here will inspire a new generation of founders to believe in their ideas and find resources to support them along every step of their entrepreneurial journeys.
What are you hoping to offer founders and entrepreneurs in MA as part of MFN?
- Awareness and access to the resources available within and beyond a founders’ geographic proximity. In particular, am hoping the MFN can bring awareness to support networks within the emerging startup communities that do not get as much attention as Boston.
- Awareness of entrepreneur stories in Massachusetts. The Founders Journal component will help with the awareness gaps that exist by sharing the stories of founders from diverse demographic, geographic, and industry groups.
- Entrepreneur-curated resources and recommendations. Trusted resources vetted and recommended by peers will become part of a community of ecosystem actors and service providers who are willing and able to work with early-stage startups.
- Streamlined understanding of and access to the capital resources available to early-stage founders.
Why do you think supporting entrepreneurs is important for Massachusetts?
Entrepreneurs are the heart of innovation economies. The continued health and economic competitiveness of the Massachusetts economy is dependent on a larger and more diverse set of entrepreneurs and closing the resource gap between Boston-based and non-Boston based founders.
What do you like to do for fun?
Travel, especially with my husband and our 2 children, Luke and Lily. Spending summers on the beach in Plymouth, golfing, and kayaking. I also love all things party planning. There’s nothing better than bringing people together and creating memorable experiences.
