ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Massachusetts Climatetech Studio is a partnership between the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and FedTech, which addresses the problems of climate change and environmental degradation by helping entrepreneurs launch new climate technology ventures. The Climatetech Studio matches teams of entrepreneurs with cutting-edge technologies from federal and university labs during an intensive 16-week program cohort. Entrepreneurs work closely with expert coaches and advisors to assess the potential of their technologies and form strategies for successful commercialization. Each participant receives a $15,000 stipend and has the chance to win further prize money and grant funding. There is no cost to participate, no equity taken, and the program is designed to be flexible for those working full-time.
It’s a great opportunity for people who are serial entrepreneurs or would like to try entrepreneurship themselves.
A participant in the first cohort said, “Overall, the Studio experience was invaluable, offering a unique combination of mentorship, resources, and opportunities that significantly advanced our project. The program’s structure and support exceeded our expectations, and we are grateful for the guidance and connections it provided. We look forward to applying what we’ve learned as we continue to grow and would highly recommend the Studio to other startups.”
Leslie Nash, Senior Director of Technology-to-Market Programs at MassCEC, stated: “Entrepreneurs and inventors are not always one in the same, so being able to match those two together is really the purpose of the studio. MassCEC identified a gap in the ecosystem. I think the Commonwealth does a really great job of supporting startups once they exist, but we haven’t really done any type of support programming around creating startups, especially ones targeting key decarbonization challenges for the state. So we took that, worked with Fedtech, and developed the Climatetech Studio. Let’s find the intellectual property that will solve Massachusetts’ climate challenges, and let’s form companies around it. Let’s give our in-state people the opportunity to be entrepreneurs that maybe wouldn’t otherwise have that opportunity.”
